New Zealand, or Aotearoa

The "land of the long white cloud" is home to many migrants and the people of this country are a mix of people from all over the world. It is a multicultural society with people of European descent, Maori, Pacific people and Asians who have made it their home. It lies in the southern Pacific ocean, 1600 kilometers east of Australia.

New Zealand offers a quality lifestyle, high standard of education and health care and has an efficient postal and telecommunications system. The country is largely stable and fairly free of crime. It is a country very proud of its beautiful environment which is protected and managed in a sustainable manner.

New Zealand's seasons are opposite to the Northern Hemisphere. January and February are the warmest months, and July is the coldest.

The country has a range of education systems and services from early childhood to later education. Schooling is compulsory in New Zealand for all children from their sixth until their 16th birthday. The tertiary education system includes universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

The New Zealand health system is largely funded by the government and residents have access to free or subsidised services.

The legal and judicial systems in New Zealand are efficient and it is a country with an independent judiciary. There are also specialist courts such as employment courts, family court, youth court and environment court.

The tax system is fairly simple. The tax rate is 19.5% on the first $ 38,000 earned. Income over that is taxed at 33% up to $60,000. The rate is 39% for income above $60,000. The taxes are returned in the form of services.

There are eleven public holidays in the year.
